For Teachers

Our task is designed as an escape room (for students in 8th grade). The groups can click through the different rooms and complete the tasks in order to be able to move to the next room. Each task/room has an explanation of what the students have to do. In order to escape and move on, they must collaborate, communicate with their group members and exchange about the topic. The tasks require speaking, reading, writing and listening skills.

preparation (before webex session):

  • In the lessons before starting the collaboration between the students, it is helpful to introduce some discussion gambits and phrases to the learners.

  • Prepare a brief overview for the other country “Israel” containing the following points: geography, climate, languages, religions, schools; in order to prepare your students for the telecollaboration project.

  • Prepare some questions which the students can use to break the ice and get to know each other. (be able to hand them out later)

  • Briefly outline what telecollaboration is and explain what the course of action is going to be.

  • Students should go together in pairs with a German peer and then are put together with two other Israeli students.

  • Provide breakout-rooms so each group can go to this website, read instructions and start the Escape-Room activity

during breakout room session:

  • With their group, students are going to discuss guiding questions and get to know each other.

  • Students do the escape room activities in the breakout rooms.

  • The teacher's task is to check up on the groups individually during the session.

after session:

  • At the End of the breakout rooms all students come back together in one group and present the poster they created.

  • optional: ask for feedback within your class (what can be improved? What was fun?)
